The sporting clubs batting, skipping and kicking their way to $10K

What do rugby league, AFL, bowls, tennis, competitive rollerblading, and dog training clubs have in common? They’re all types of community sports clubs that wrote in to tell us how a $10,000 grant would benefit them, as part of our recent LPG campaign.

We received almost 650 poems, pleas and raps from community sports clubs right across Australia asking for support to upgrade their amenities, add new appliances and buy scoreboards.

Meet the winning clubs

  • Gooloogong Country Club (NSW)
  • Walkerston BMX Club (North QLD)
  • Fortitude Valley Rugby League Football Club (South QLD)
  • Swan Hill Kart Club (VIC)
  • NT Netball Association (NT)
  • Sandy Bay Sailing Club (TAS)
  • Meningie Football Club Inc (SA)
  • Albany North Football Club (WA)

Across February, we received 642 entries from local sports clubs around Australia who use LPG. Queensland submitted 36% of entries and NRL clubs were most popular - which comes as no surprise, with NRL legend, Darren Lockyer, as the face of our campaign.

The top 5 club types to enter were rugby league, AFL, bowls, soccer and combined football / netball. We also saw some unusual entries from umpire associations, darts, competitive rollerblading, footgolf (a combination of soccer and golf) and dog training clubs.

The winning clubs from QLD, NSW and NT will star in our upcoming TV ads, sharing their club’s story and how LPG helps them kick goals – make sure to stay tuned.

We've also awarded two additional grants to community sports clubs in south-western Queensland - the Miles Bowls Club and the Noonga Community Association Inc.
